Artists’ Artists

Artists’ Artists is a podcast where contemporary artists shed light on works of art from the national collection that inspire, move or intrigue them.

“It was a moment for a young artist, as I was then, of sort of profound silence and realisation that art could convey incredibly powerful, significant messages without the need for verbal communication.”

— Danie Mellor, Artists’ Artists

THE BRIEF

The National Gallery of Australia was looking to transform a section of their new Gallery publication, The Annual, into a podcast series. Titled Artists’ Artists, the format and proposition is simple – in each season, five artists select four works each from the national collection that they have a connection with.

Artists’ Artists invites audiences to learn more about some of the treasures and lesser-known works in the national collection, as well as gain insight into the personal life experiences and stories of Australian and international artists.

Artists’ Artists is hosted by Jennifer Higgie, an Australian writer and the former editor of the London-based arts magazine, frieze. Higgie's recent books include The Other Side: A Journey into Women, Art and the Spirit World and The Mirror and the Palette: 500 Years of Women's Self Portraits. She is also the presenter of Bow Down, a podcast about women in art history, and the editor of National Gallery publication The Annual.

WHAT WE DID

Working with NGA and host Jennifer Higgie, Audiocraft facilitated the development and execution of season one and season two of Artists’ Artists. Recording with local and international artists, we pulled threads from these interviews to weave a tapestry that shone a light on works in the national collection that sparked their imagination. From London to Yogyakarta to Sydney, this series spanned time zones and continents, resulting in a series that celebrates the human condition and the importance of beauty– and art.

Audiocraft facilitated and recorded remote interviews, scripted the host narration, edited, sound designed and mixed the episodes, and created promotional materials.
