SYNOPSIS

After documentarian Ben Lawrence read an article about Jason, now a Western Sydney security guard and part-time ghost hunter, he embarked on a seven year journey into a gothic world of suburban graveyards and broken souls.

Paranormal activity, a family's terrible forgotten secret, and a police investigation converge in Ghosthunter: part family memoir and part true crime podcast. Years of self-reflection and estranged characters from the past bring Jason and Ben to a confronting conclusion – that sometimes the most terrifying ghosts are the ones we find within ourselves.

WHAT WE DID

Ghosthunter was first made into a film documentary, by Exit Films. Transforming the existing material into a podcast was an opportunity to tell a bigger story and extend the narrative beyond where the film left off.

Drawing on the strengths of audio storytelling, we positioned the director of the film as the narrator of the audio series and relied on scripting to further develop the characters, digging into the complexity of this true story. We recorded additional interviews to fill gaps and produced complex assemblies of each episode. A sophisticated approach to sound design and music by Sound Engineer Camilla Hannan further underlined this.
